Urquhart's Hut
Urquhart's Hut is a small backcountry hut in Craigieburn Forest Park (North Canterbury / Arthur’s Pass area), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a basic six-bunk hut; bookings aren’t required and use is first come, first served.
The hut has a corrugated iron fireplace at the south end and an earth floor. There’s a pit toilet near the hut; drinking water is taken from the river. Access is up the Wilberforce braided river valley, which involves numerous river crossings—conditions can change quickly, so be ready to turn back if you can’t cross safely.
