West Burn Hut

West Burn Hut is a basic six-bunk backcountry hut in Mavora Lakes Conservation Park, run by the Department of Conservation in the Southland region. Use is free and no bookings are required—plan on first come, first served capacity.

Access is by boat over the North Mavora Lake, or from the west via the Livingstone Mountains; there is no DOC track access, so you’ll need navigation skills and your own route planning. The hut has sleeping provision, a fireplace, and pit latrine toilets; there’s no drinking water provided, so bring enough for your stay.
