Whymper Hut

Alpine hutWhymper Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in the Whataroa area (West Coast region), operated by the Department of Conservation. It’s in the Glaciers area on stewardship land, with use on a first come, first served basis and standard hut tickets (one per night) required via an honesty box at the hut.
The hut has six bunks, drinking water described as untreated, and a pit latrine. Fees for stays run as $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4). A fireplace is provided, and the hut includes mattresses.
