Brills Bivouac
Brills Bivouac is a Department of Conservation backcountry bivvy in the Urutawa Conservation Area (Bay of Plenty, New Zealand), built as a lean-to style shelter for overnight tramping use. It has bedding for 2 and is managed on a first-come, first-served basis (no advance booking). Use is free.
There’s an open fire available for heating/cooking and a nearby natural water source, but plan for pack-in/pack-out: take all rubbish and food waste with you. Arrive with a tent or flysheet as backup in case the bivouac is full, and use the designated fire setup only—fully extinguish before leaving. The hut logbook is intended for recording your intended route and emergency contact details.
