Manganuku Hut
Manganuku Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in the East Coast region, set within the Raukumara Conservation Park / Ōpōtiki and Urutawa Conservation Area. It has 6 bunk beds and an open fire place, with drinking water taken from the nearby river. Use is free and no bookings are required—it’s first come, first served.
Access is via the Manganuku Track from the Manganuku campsite (47 km from Opotiki, adjacent to SH2 and the Manganuku Bridge). The hut route runs about 3–4 hours one way: roughly 1 hour on a benched track that crosses steep bluffs with some steep drop-offs, then down into a short gorge that requires low river levels, and finally about 2 hours following the Manganuku Stream to the hut. The hut is reached on an advanced route.
