Nikau Flat Hut

Nikau Flat Hut is a six-bunk standard hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Waioweka Conservation Area, near the Ōpōtiki area on New Zealand’s East Coast. It’s set up for backcountry overnight stays with drinking water that isn’t treated, a fireplace, and a pit latrine toilet.

Bookings aren’t required; it’s first come, first served. To stay overnight, you need a Standard Hut Ticket for each night (adults $10 per night; youth $5 per night; children/infants 0–4 free) and place it in the honesty box at the hut.
