Hastings Hut
Hastings Hut is a remote backcountry wilderness shelter in New Zealand’s Urutawa Conservation Area. It’s run on a first-come, first-served basis (no booking required).
The hut sleeps 2 people in 2 standard bunk beds. Inside you’ll find basic mattresses, a heating source fueled by firewood, and a long-drop toilet. Water comes from a roof-fed rainwater catchment tank.
Plan on pack-in/pack-out behaviour: take all rubbish out and use firewood sparingly so there’s enough for anyone arriving later.
