Deep Creek Hut

Deep Creek Hut is a basic, historic six-bunk backcountry hut in the Pisa Conservation Area (Wanaka/Makarora area). It was restored to a one-room corrugated-iron structure with a stone fireplace, and it’s known for early-1900s graffiti on the walls.

Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first-come, first-served. Expect to find a hut toilet and plan to arrive self-sufficient for a multi-hour tramp—carry your own supplies and rubbish, and be prepared to camp nearby with a tent if the hut is full when you reach it.
