Hope Halfway Hut

Hope Halfway Hut is a basic six-bunk backcountry hut managed by the Department of Conservation in Lake Sumner Forest Park, Canterbury (North Canterbury and Arthur’s Pass area). It’s used by walkers crossing between huts and locations on overland routes in the area; use is first come, first served and no bookings are required.

Use is free, with Te Araroa Trail walkers expected to register and purchase the Te Araroa Trail Pass. The hut has mattresses and pit latrine toilets, but no fireplace, no drinking water, and dogs are not allowed.
