Hope Kiwi Lodge

Hope Kiwi Lodge is a serviced backcountry lodge in Lake Sumner Forest Park (North Canterbury / Arthur’s Pass area), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a 20-bunk base aimed at walkers using the North Canterbury–Arthur’s Pass route network; tracks to the lodge take about 18 hr 30 min and are rated Advanced (Expert).

Bedding is provided (mattresses and a place to sleep) and the lodge has drinking water available as untreated water, plus toilets with pit latrine disposal. Booking is required, and payment is handled through a hut ticket or Backcountry Hut Pass for stays during the hut’s main season; Backcountry Hut Passes are valid from 1 May to 30 September and not accepted from 1 October to 30 April. Fees are listed per night (adult, youth, and child/infant categories), and no spaces are kept for arrivals without a booking. Fees to camp at the hut are paid using hut tickets or passes (with separate per-night camping rates). There are no dogs allowed.
