Lucretia Hut

Lucretia Hut is a basic two-bunk hut in Lake Sumner Forest Park (Canterbury region) managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s free to use and works on a first-come, first-served basis (no bookings required). Use is aimed at experienced backcountry travellers; the official hut listing gives the difficulty as “Expert.”

Inside, there are two bunk spaces and a fireplace is provided, but there’s no drinking water at the hut. Toilets are available as a pit latrine. Dogs are not allowed. A trip to Lucretia Hut typically takes about 4 hours.
