Magdalen Hut

Magdalen Hut is a standard five-bunk backcountry hut in the St James Conservation Area, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a first-come, first-served hut; no bookings are required, and a hut ticket is needed for each night via an honesty box at the hut (or an appropriate Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use).

Sleeping capacity is limited (five bunks). The hut has a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with pit-latrine disposal. Drinking water is untreated, so plan to treat water before use.
