Middy Creek Hut
Middy Creek Hut is a standard 6-bunk backcountry hut in the Pelorus River valley, set within Mount Richmond Forest Park in Marlborough. It’s operated by the Department of Conservation and use is first come, first served—no bookings are required for sleeping space. The hut has mattresses, a fireplace, and pit latrine toilets, but it does not have drinking water.
Fees are charged per night: $10 for adults (18+), $5 for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4). Before you stay, you need to buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period). Conditions on some roads can change due to severe weather; check the latest road updates before travelling to DOC facilities.
