Murray Adrian Hut

Murray Adrian Hut is one of the Hodder Huts in the Inland Kaikōura Range, run by the Marlborough Tramping Club. It’s a backcountry hut accessed on an arranged basis through the club and landowner permissions, and it’s used by trampers aiming for peaks in the Inland Kaikoura area.

The hut sleeps 12. Access is controlled: all visitors need a Marlborough Tramping Club “Access Number” obtained by emailing the club at least 48 hours before travel, and the number must also be quoted when arranging landowner permission to cross Gladstone Downs (Bev & Allan Pitts). Your access number and vehicle details must be displayed on your dashboard at the trailhead.

The approach is not a marked route and involves advanced navigation. Expect water crossings on the Hodder River track—many unbridged crossings that can turn hazardous in wet weather—so plan for river conditions and carry route-finding capability appropriate to remote, unmarked backcountry travel.

Dogs are prohibited on the farm track access route and in and around the immediate confines of the huts. For safety and self-management in remote terrain, the club’s guidance includes bringing a PLB/EPIRB and having strong skills for navigation and river travel.
