Red Hills Hut
Red Hills Hut is a standard 6-bunk backcountry hut operated by the Department of Conservation in Mount Richmond Forest Park (Nelson/Tasman region). It’s in the Nelson Lakes area and is typically used as a first-come, first-served overnight stop—no bookings are required, but you must buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut; an adult is $10 per night (youth 5–17 years $5, child/infant 0–4 years free).
The hut provides drinking water that is untreated, plus bedding (mattress is available). Facilities include toilets with pit-latrine disposal, and there’s no fireplace. The hut is accessed with a hut ticket or pass rather than reserving beds.
