Sedgemere Sleepout

Sedgemere Sleepout is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Molesworth Recreation Reserve (Marlborough). It’s a standard 6-bunk hut in the South Marlborough area with toilets, and a fireplace is provided; drinking water isn’t supplied, so plan to bring your own.

Access for the hut is from the north via Rainbow Road, which is a toll road with access restrictions; roads from the south have no restrictions. Standard bookings aren’t required—use is first come, first served—but you must buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut (adult $10/night, youth $5/night, child/infant free). A backcountry hut pass option is also offered for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts over a 12-month period.

To get there, plan ahead for road and weather impacts in the Marlborough Sounds area: severe weather has damaged many roads, so check the latest road updates before you travel.
