Slaty Hut

Slaty Hut is a standard 6-bunk backcountry hut in Mount Richmond Forest Park (Nelson/Tasman). It’s part of the Te Araroa Trail area and is used on the section between Old Man Hut and Slaty Hut. Bookings aren’t required; stays are first come, first served for the 6 beds. To use it, buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts). Fees are listed as $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4). The hut provides drinking water from an untreated source, and it has a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with pit latrine disposal.
