Swale Hut

Swale Hut is a private backcountry hut on Awapiri Station (Marlborough, New Zealand). It’s a small, bunk-style stay with capacity for 4 people, and it functions as a replacement for an older musterers hut in the same area, located about 150 m to the northwest.

Use is on a prior-permission basis because the hut and surrounding land sit on working pastoral lease. Plan ahead with the station owners/managers to get permission before visiting or staying, and treat the site as active farmland: stay clear of stock operations and leave no trace. The hut has heating (including a closed fire/wood stove), mattresses, and toilets, and it’s supplied with water from a nearby water source.
