Tarn Hut

Tarn Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Mount Richmond Forest Park, used as part of Te Araroa. It’s a standard 5-bunk hut in the South Marlborough area, with no booking required—stays run on a first come, first served basis, and you settle into the honesty box with a Standard Hut Ticket (or a Backcountry Hut Pass) for each night you use the hut.

The hut has 5 bunks with an advertised capacity of 4, and it’s equipped with drinking water that is not treated. Toilets are by pit latrine, and a fireplace is provided. DOC hut use includes hut-ticket requirements (including adult/youth/child rates up to 30 June 2026) rather than booking.
