Three Mile Stream Hut

Three Mile Stream Hut is a standard seven-bunk backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in Lake Sumner Forest Park (Canterbury). It’s for first-come, first-served use—no bookings are required. Dogs are not allowed.

For sleeping, the hut provides seven bunks and mattresses, along with a fireplace and a pit latrine. Hut stays require a Standard Hut Ticket placed in the honesty box for each night; an Adult ticket costs $10 per night (Youth $5 for ages 5–17, Child/Infant free for ages 0–4). A Backcountry Hut Pass also provides unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period.
