Tin Jug Hut

Tin Jug Hut is a private backcountry hut on Glenhope Station in New Zealand’s Canterbury high country. It’s self-catered and operates for backcountry stays that are typically weather-dependent and available from 1 November to 30 April. The hut is set up for short, practical overnight use rather than full facilities: it has four bunks, heating, mattresses, toilets, and an open fire, with water provided via roof runoff into a tank.

Bookings for Tin Jug Hut are handled by Glenhope Station, and access involves meeting management for a safety briefing and a gate key handover; management can also arrange shuttling of overnight luggage to the hut. The hut is used by pack-rafters, kayakers, and horse trekkers (and other activities tied to the station’s guided/managed access). It can be used as a lunch stop during the Glenhope Station riding circuit that reaches the hut from the surrounding beech country and riverside travel.
