Top Trent Hut/lagoon Hut

Top Trent Hut/lagoon Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Ahaura River and Lake Brunner catchments area on the West Coast, near Greymouth. Use is free and no bookings are required—plan on first-come, first-served occupancy.

The hut is equipped with mattresses and has pit latrine toilets; there’s no drinking water provided and no fireplace. Expect expert-level route planning rather than an easy walk-in based on the DOC difficulty rating, and pack everything you’ll need for an overnight stay.
