Valley Camp Hut
Valley Camp Hut is a private backcountry hut on Island Hills Station in Canterbury, used as an overnight stop during the Island Hills Station Walking Track. It was originally built for pest control and mustering.
The hut is an open-plan lodge with curtains for added privacy, a fully equipped kitchen, gas cooking, BBQ facilities, and hot showers, plus a small gas fridge/freezer for perishable food items. Pack transfer is part of the track setup, with a limit of one pack (20 kg or less) per person and one “chilli-bin” per group; you carry a day pack while walking and arrive at the hut on day 2 (with Day 1 covering the walk to Valley Camp).
